Mahamud Salifu

Mahamud Salifu, affectionally known as Abilhore developed an interest in the game after watching adults playing around 1989/1990. He and his brothers started playing Oware but on dugout holes on the ground in La Cote, d’Ivoir. In 1993 he moved to Bolgatanga in the Upper East region of Ghana, where his interest in the game picked up. Oware playing became a passion of his and he could not go a in a single day without playing his favourite game. In fact his entire every day life was devoted to Oware, in spite of beatings up by family friends and love ones, denied food by his parents and locked from the house to sleep outside as punishment for neglecting everything under the sun for the game. By 1996 he was the best player in the Upper East Region and by extension any part of the country he travelled to: Kumasi Sunyani and Tamale. It was a period of excitement in my playing days. Upon moving to Accra in 2001, his focus shifted to work. By 2010 he had retired completely from playing until he was introduced to online playing.
